Put Your Best Foot Forward: 23rd Annual Back-To-School Shoe Giveaway
Each year, AEG Oakland, hosts the Back-to-School Shoe Giveaway to help defray school expenses for Alameda County families with average annual incomes of less than $25,000. This year AEG Oakland donated 3,100 pairs of shoes – meeting our goal and surpassing last year’s Shoe Giveaway total of 3,020 pairs.
The event, which is co-sponsored by Oakland’s First African Methodist Episcopal Church, grows every year with the help of generous sponsors, including Kaiser Permanente, Blue Shield of California, Wells Fargo and others. This year, 1,360 families from 12 incorporated and 2 unincorporated communities in Alameda County enjoyed a safe celebration filled with community and health resources, family focused activities, and haircuts.
