2nd Annual Read Across America Day
This year, Oracle Arena, O.co Coliseum, Feld Entertainment and AEG Oakland collected 300 new children’s books at select events held at Oracle Arena, during the last week of February. AEG donated the books collected to students at Madison Park Business and Art Academy, located in Sobrante Park. AEG executives volunteered to read to students. Students from 1st – 3rd grade who demonstrated great improvements in their reading over the school year were identified to participate. The teachers wanted to reward their hard work and achievements. At the conclusion of the story time, each student selected a book to take home. The library, which recently eliminated books dating back to the 1950s, kept the remaining books to share with the entire elementary.
